St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic School
Iowa Test Scores 2006

A letter from the principal, Mrs. Patricia Ferguson-Chaney

January 29, 2007

Dear Parents,

Please keep in mind when reviewing the results…

Purpose of standardize testing

1.      First and foremost- to help improve instruction

2.      Allows comparison to National, Private and Archdiocese Of Detroit results

3.      Reports progress to teachers, parents and community

Test Results are NOT the only measure of progress and should NOT be used in isolation to evaluate:

1.      Retention or selection for special programs

2.      Teacher effectiveness

Grade Equivalent scores show year-to-year progress. They are not used for grade placement or an indication of development levels. For example: a 7.6 in reading does not mean the student is actually reading at the sixth month of the 7th grade on a daily basis.

Scores are not absolutely precise/accurate. Many outside factors affect performance on any day.

  • Students may be tired, hungry, or worried about something unrelated to the test.

What and when areas are covered in the whole school curriculum also affect the scores.

Sincerely.

Mrs. Patricia Ferguson-Chaney, principal
