St. Clare of Montefalco
(
1275-1308)

Prayer and sacrifice distinguished her life. She was especially devoted to the passion of Christ. The cross that she is holding in her hand symbolizes this. Her own heart is shown, recalling her words to her sisters; "If you seek the cross of Christ, take my heart; there you will find the suffering Lord."

Welcome to St. Clare of Montefalco Religious Education Program

2011-2012

"...to put people not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy with Jesus Christ."
Catechesi Tradendae - On Catechesis in Our Time - John Paul II, 1979.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES LEARNING PRAYERS

This year, all of the students in religious education classes are assigned the following prayers to learn at home with their parents.  Prayer begins at home.  Parents are the first teachers of the Catholic Faith to their children.  Catechists will be reviewing these prayers with children throughout the year, so be sure to make prayer an important part of your family life.  All the prayers your children are learning may be found in the appendix in the back of their textbooks, as well.

Prayers to be learned by grade levels. Parents should teach their child these prayers:

Grade 4 Grace Before/After Meals

What is Catechesis?

"Catechesis aims to bring about in the believer an ever more mature faith in Jesus Christ, a deeper knowledge and love of his person and message, and a firm commitment to follow him."

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. National Directory for Catechesis, No. 19A. Washington, DC: United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2005.

What makes a great Catechist?

"Therefore, the careful selection of women and men called to be catechists and their initial and ongoing formation are the greatest factors in assuring the quality of catechesis in the parish, school and diocese. Formation will help the catechist grow in maturity as an adult, a believer and an apostle."

Congregation for the Clergy. General Directory for Catechesis,
No. 238. Washington, DC: United States Catholic Conference, 1998.

All Religious Education students are expected to bring their textbooks, journals and Bibles home each week.

Since parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith, they are asked to review the lesson and prayers weekly with their children.  Please return the textbooks each week with your children to class.
