SUCCESS
STORIES
We helped a senior citizen
take down her Christmas tree and decorations and pack them away
for next year. This experience took the boys two hours to
complete.
Our group visited the
Penrickton Center for blind children. Since our visit the
girls have been stuffing envelopes (5,000) and making books on
tape for the children.
At the Capuchin Warehouse,
the boys sorted toys then wrapped gifts for the needy.
They were surprised at the contents of the gifts for adults
(soap, underwear, toothbrushes, etc.). It made them realize what
others don't have.
The girls gave manicures at
St. John Bon Secours on E. Warren. We purchased our own
supplies at the drug store. The day also included playing
games, delivering popcorn and taking the therapy dogs to
patients for visits. A big hit for the disciples and the
residents!
The boys put together 90
Valentine packages to go to the homebound food program
distributed by Bon Secours Hospital. They worked together
for 3 hours, making cards and small cups of candy for each
package. Good team work project.
At the Gleaners Community
Food Bank the girls felt they were doing something rewarding and
helpful.
A tour of the Children's Home
in Detroit was educational for our group. The girls made
Valentine decorations for the doors of the children's cottages.
It would be beneficial to help in the spring or summer because
there would be more ways for a Disciple Group to participate in
an activity. Ex: gardening.
Our group collected pet food
from the middle school to donate to the Grosse Pointe Animal
Adoption Society. They spoke to the principal, visited
each classroom and also collected pop cans for a cash donation.
During St. Clare's basketball
tournament the girls worked 2 hour shifts at the concession
stand. An easy, much appreciated project on school
grounds.
