   Confirmation Preparation: Service Opportunities        

Suggestions for Individuals

INDIVIDUAL

 Service Opportunities

COMMUNITY

·         Partake in swim, walk, or bike-a-thons Charity drives.

·         Become a Candy Striper.

·         Help with Handicapped swimming.

·         Nursing homes- Help at dinner, giving out water, talk with patients etc.

·         Your help at St. John Bon-Secour, St. Joseph, St. Ann or any Nursing Home will be appreciated.  Call and see what you can do.

·         Work at Capuchin’s Warehouse Sorting clothes for the poor.

·         Work at “Make a Difference Day” on third Saturday of October.  Ask your teacher for information.

 

 NEIGHBORHOOD - Senior Citizen, Sick, Shut-ins or New Mothers

·         Rake leaves, clean flowerbeds, trim bushes, etc.

·         Shovel snow.

·         Take out trash (weekly).

·         Light housekeeping (dust, vacuum, etc.).

·         Write letters.

·         Baby-sit or house sit.

·         Run errands.

·         Go grocery shopping FOR...

·         Visit - just sit and listen.

·         Show you care.

·         Walk a child home from school.

·         Tutor.

 

HOME

·         Do jobs without being asked.

·         Help when you see someone tired or upset.

·         Try not to argue with parents, brothers or sisters.

·         Be considerate of others’ feelings.

·         Beautify your home (start with your room).

·         Do things you know need to be done. (Like dinner dishes, mop floor, vacuum, etc.)

·         Help with homework.

·         Really listen to your brother or sister when they are having a problem.

·         Read to your younger siblings.

 

SCHOOL

·         Do your work to the best of your ability.

·         Cooperate with teachers - behave.

·         Be considerate of your classmates.

·         Befriend a classmate who may have no friends.

·         Don’t criticize everything; do something constructive.

·         Participate in sports.

·         Keep your school clean.

·         Volunteer your help to teachers.

·         Study all your subjects especially Religion.

·         Do your homework.

 

Many of these service choices should be done with adult help or supervision.  It is up to you to let the people in charge know that you are willing to help in any way possible
