Ecuador:

We are very excited about this trip. During our time in Ecuador we will have the opportunity to meet with Ecuadorians, hear their stories, and accompany them for a short time in their daily lives. The lessons we learn will be carried with us as we grow in our faith and work toward justice and peace in Ecuador and our own communities.

How we are preparing...

Over the next few months we will explore the issues Ecuadorians face on a daily basis.  We will work and plan together how we will share our gifts with the people we encounter.

There are a series of meetings and community building events the Archdioceses is asking us to attend.  These events are designed to provide us the tools we need to identify the gifts we have and how we can best use them in services to the Ecuadorian.

As a group we will explore the issue of solidarity through a retreat and a food fast.  The focus of the retreat is to prepare us for the trip through sessions tailored to give us a sense of some of the issues we will face when we are in South America.  The food fast will explore solidarity on a global level as it will focus our attention on the lives of people outside of our own community and the struggles they face each day trying to provide a meal for themself or family.

We will share with our families our experiences as we plan for our time in South America and upon our return we will share our experience with our community.

Please keep checking this site, as we will update weekly with new information.

Thank you for your support.

Riobamba Economy:

The economy of the city mainly focuses on the agricultural production of the surrounding local populations. Besides this, Riobamba has an open-air market where indigenous artisans display their wares, where people can find manufactured products as textiles, handicrafts, leather goods, beer, and dairy products. Riobamba is also an important trade center of cattle-ranching.
